Stroke TIA for Physicians
Description
The goal of this Accredited Group Learning Activity is to educate the medical community to provide consistent, evidence-based care on Stroke/TIA Management.
Accreditation
This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada , and has been approved by the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians.
This program meets the accreditation criteria of The College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been accredited for up to 1 Mainpro-MI credits.
Module Objectives
- Describe the impact of stroke and TIA on patients' lives and on the economy.
- Correlate neurological symptoms and signs with brain anatomy and vascular distribution.
- Recognize patients who present to the Emergency Department (ED) with various causes of stroke-like presentations, including intracranial hemorrhage, ischemic stroke, and transient ischemic attack (TIA).
- Identify the points of contact from pre-hospital through the Emergency Department to recognize potential time delays in the assessment of the Stroke/TIA patient.
- Evaluate case examples of patients with strokes and stroke mimics presenting to the ED and determine those who need a workup for possible early intervention.
- Manage a Stroke patient optimally given the resources at your site.
- Coordinate the workup of the TIA patient, ensuring proper risk stratification, necessary investigations and referral as appropriate.
- Educate you on the new stroke/TIA protocols, and facilitate discussion at your site to optimize the treatment of the stroke/TIA population.
